Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave has been winning over critics since launching on Switch 2, and now players have found something pretty unexpected hiding in the controls.
According to a report from Playground, the game can actually be played from start to finish using only a single right Joy-Con in mouse mode. Yes, that means a full one-handed playthrough is entirely possible.
One player put this to the test across the entire main story and confirmed that tactical turn-based battles, dungeon exploration, character dialogue scenes, and free roaming through towns all run smoothly with just the one controller. No game-breaking bugs, no awkward control gaps — it just works.
The hidden mouse controls are surprisingly well thought out. The right stick handles character movement, and clicking it quickly resets the camera. Holding the left button triggers a sprint, and in dungeons the game smartly prioritizes an attack before switching to run mode. That same button also speeds up battle animations, which is a nice quality-of-life touch. In dialogue screens, pushing the stick opens the story log, any function button brings up the adventure guide, and flicking the stick left or right cycles through submenus. It all feels clean and intuitive.
That said, there's one pretty frustrating catch. To actually start the game, you still need to pair the left Joy-Con. If you disconnect the left controller and try to play with only the right one, the game gets stuck on the controller connection screen and won't let you in. It's technically consistent with how the hardware boots up, but it definitely puts a damper on the pure one-handed experience.
Setting that flaw aside, the overall one-handed setup is impressively polished. The stick-plus-mouse combo feels a little odd at first, but once you get used to it, it becomes second nature. This isn't an officially designed one-handed mode, but the community-discovered workaround is so effective that it genuinely opens up a new way to play.
Have you tried going one-handed in Fortune's Weave yet? Let us know how it went.
