Ever wondered what it's like to face a nightmare made of protomolecule? The latest trailer for The Expanse: Osiris Reborn just gave us a chilling look at one of the series' most iconic threats, and it's exactly as terrifying as you'd expect.
During Gamescom's Find Your Next Game showcase, Owlcat Games dropped a fresh trailer for their upcoming sci-fi RPG, and it's all about Project Caliban. If you're a fan of the show or books, you know this name spells trouble. For the uninitiated, Project Caliban is a top-secret experiment by the shady corporation Protogen, which tried to turn the alien Protomolecule into supersoldiers. Spoiler alert: it didn't end well.
The trailer shows off both Protogen's hired muscle and a poor soul turned into a human-Protomolecule hybrid, just like the one that haunted Season 2. It's a visual treat, but here's a cool detail: Owlcat seems to be taking cues from the TV show rather than the books. In the show, the Protomolecule glows a bright, bioluminescent blue, while in the books it's described as a slimy, brownish goo. Guess which one made the cut? Blue all the way.
You'll also get a better look at the female version of the player-character, simply called "the Captain," as she sneaks through Protogen's facility on Ganymede. But here's a twist: the male Captain is suspiciously silent in this trailer. That's because after the April 2026 beta, players complained about the male lead's voice acting, so Owlcat went ahead and recast the role. Smart move, right?
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn doesn't have a release date yet, but it's expected to hit PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S sometime in Q2 2027. You can already wishlist it on Steam if you're hyped.
