Ever wonder why Hideo Kojima has been so tight-lipped about his upcoming horror game OD? You're not alone. On a recent episode of his radio show Koji10, Kojima finally addressed the silence, and it turns out he's just as mysterious as the game itself.
Kojima admitted that OD is "still a mystery," but reassured fans that doesn't mean it's not happening. "This doesn't mean we haven't made the game. I want to keep quiet and release it," he said. For a guy who usually floods us with teasers, this change of pace is unusual even for him. "I normally put out teaser after teaser. This time I don't want to reveal much," he explained.
The lack of updates since OD was announced back in 2023 had some fans worried, but Kojima set the record straight: the Screen Actors Guild strikes lasted about a year and definitely impacted development. However, shooting resumed in June and will continue through the end of the year, with automated dialogue replacement (ADR) work stretching into 2027. "The shoot is going well," Kojima said. "We're developing the game while we shoot."
Interestingly, development didn't completely halt during the strike. Kojima revealed they'd been using stand-ins for temporary versions, though replacing those performances is "a lot of work." It's a clever workaround that kept things moving, even if it means extra effort down the line.
Kojima also took a moment to remember Udo Kier, the actor who was set to star in OD and passed away last year at 81. "He had really looked forward to the project," Kojima shared. He didn't say whether Kier's work will be retained, but he did mention that Kier participated in a "three-day scan" alongside co-star Hunter Schafer. That detail alone has us curious about how the final game will honor his contribution.
In other Kojima news, he mentioned that Xbox had "never seen" anything like Physint, which is saying something considering Xbox was the only publisher that didn't think his OD pitch was "crazy." That's a pretty strong vote of confidence for whatever wild ideas Kojima has cooking.
So, what do you think? Are you happy to wait in the dark for OD, or do you wish Kojima would throw us a teaser or two? Let us know in the comments!
