Marvel's Wolverine Claws Its Way to #4 on PS Store Despite 78 Metacritic

Scores don't always tell the whole story. Marvel's Wolverine isn't even out yet, and it's already climbing the PlayStation Store charts — reportedly landing at #4 in sales, ahead of the pricier GTA6.

A player on X pointed out the ranking, noting the September 15 PS5 exclusive is moving units without leaning on review scores. They added that they expect it to keep climbing once it actually launches.

For those who haven't been keeping up: Marvel's Wolverine comes from Insomniac Games, the studio behind the Marvel's Spider-Man series. This one tells an original story about Logan digging into his own past to uncover the truth.

Review scores dropped on September 10. On Metacritic, the game sits at a 78 average, while OpenCritic shows roughly 79% of outlets recommending it. That's a step below the studio's previous three Marvel titles, which set a pretty high bar.

Critics have generally praised the combat feel and the voice performances — the stuff you'd expect Insomniac to nail. On the flip side, several reviews point to a fairly linear structure, a limited variety of enemies, and a story that loses some steam in its later stretch.

So here's the interesting part: even with a mid-to-high 70s score, the game is apparently outselling a title with a much bigger price tag. That says something about how much pull Wolverine has as a character — and how much trust Insomniac has built up with players.

Will that momentum hold after launch? Reviews are mixed enough that word of mouth could go either way. But if the sales chart is any indication, plenty of you are already sold.
