Xbox Mythic Achievements: 15-Second Celebration for 100% Completion

Ever spent dozens of hours hunting down every last Achievement in a game, only to get a tiny pop and a quiet 'ding'? Xbox is about to make that final moment feel a lot more epic. Say hello to Mythic Achievements.

These new awards work a lot like PlayStation's platinum trophies. You'll need to earn every single Achievement in a game before a Mythic Achievement is handed out. That makes them the ultimate badge for completionists who refuse to leave any stone unturned.

And Xbox isn't being subtle about it. According to Klobrille, unlocking a Mythic Achievement triggers a lengthy animation and sound effect that runs almost 15 seconds in total. That's a full quarter-minute of digital fanfare just for you. After pouring hours into a game, sitting back and soaking in that applause actually sounds pretty satisfying.

There is a catch, though. According to TrueAchievements, Mythic Achievements are worth zero Gamerscore and are tracked separately from your usual Achievements. So they won't bump up your score, but they will sit on your shelf as proof that you truly did everything there is to do in a game.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma had teased the rollout of these new awards back in August, and now they're finally arriving. The timing is a bit bittersweet, though. This launch comes during another bleak week at Xbox, with hundreds of layoffs across Xbox Game Studios, studio consolidation grouping various developers under new arms of Xbox, and a rough situation for Ninja Theory. Undead Labs also has a new owner that hasn't been officially revealed yet, and the move away from Xbox has resulted in downsizing at the State of Decay 3 developer.

So while completionists get a shiny new reason to celebrate, the wider Xbox community is navigating some tough changes. Mythic Achievements might not fix any of that, but they do give dedicated players a proper moment in the spotlight.
