Street Fighter Movie: All the Easter Eggs, Fighters, and Stages We Spotted

Did you catch all the Street Fighter references in the new movie? The film has hurricane-kicked its way onto screens, and it's a love letter to the games, featuring a World Warrior tournament full of Easter eggs, famous fighters, and special moves. It might not be as extensive as our Super Mario Galaxy Movie Easter eggs breakdown, but it's still a nostalgic trip for fans.

The movie boasts a massive line-up of characters from the games. Not all are playable, but most have appeared in numerous Street Fighter games since 1987. They're also rocking their iconic outfits, making this one of the more authentic video game adaptations ever. The full roster includes Akuma, Balrog, Blanka, Cammy, Chun-Li, Dan Hibiki, Dhalsim, Don Sauvage, E. Honda, Gouken, Guile, Joe, Juli, Ken, M. Bison, Ryu, Sagat, Vega, and Zangief.

Special moves are everywhere, many recreated frame for frame. Ryu busts out the Hadouken, Hurricane Kick, and Dragon Punch. Ken delivers the Axe Kick, Hell Wheel, Dragonlash Kick, and Chinbuster. Chun-Li shows off the Lightning Kick, Spinning Bird Kick, Falling Crane, and Hazanshu. E. Honda brings the Hundred Hand Slap, Sumo Headbutt, Oicho Throw, and Power Stomp. Zangief hits the Russian Suplex and Cyclone Lariat. Dhalsim uses Yoga Mummy, Karma Kick, and Yoga Mountain. Balrog unleashes the Crazy Rush and Buffalo Headbutt. Guile flashes the Flash Kick, Blanka electrifies with Electric Thunder, M. Bison performs the Psycho Crusher, and Akuma finishes with Empyrean's End.

Stage recreations are fewer since much of the fighting takes place in the World Warrior tournament arena in Metrolao City. Still, there are fun callbacks: the Ayutthaya Ruins in Thailand (where Ryu and Sagat fought in 1987), the car bonus stage (Ken dismantles a car with his feet and fists), and the Bathhouse/Kapukon Yu (Ryu and E. Honda fight in a sauna for a spot in the second tournament).

Easter eggs abound. Ryu vs Sagat plays out in animated flashback, mirroring the game's inaugural tournament outcome. The iconic 'Round 1: fight!' announcement plays over the title card. M. Bison actor David Dastmalchian recreates the 'M. Bison says yes' gif. Outside Ryu's apartment, there are posters for the 'Chaos Games' – a possible nod to SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom. The Street Fighter II title screen is recreated, featuring directors Danny and Michael Philippou as the two fighters. There are also callbacks to 1994's Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie, like Chun-Li's shower scene and her disfiguring Vega. M. Bison's 'For me, it's Tuesday' line references the 1994 live-action movie. The themes from Street Fighter and Street Fighter II are in the score, and creator cameos include Justin Wong and Maximilian Dood in Bison's prison during the Blanka vs Ryu fight. Finally, M. Bison's final line, 'You lose,' nods to the Street Fighter II announcer.
