LoL Classic Shutting Down After Just Three Months

Riot Games is ending League of Legends Classic after only three months, with the mode playable until the end of the current season before closing in January 2027.

LoL Classic Shutting Down After Just Three Months

Did you ever think you'd see a classic mode for League of Legends come and go so fast? Riot Games has announced that LoL Classic, the nostalgic trip back to the game's earlier days, is officially winding down after just three months of operation.

The mode was released in July after Riot announced it, but it seems there just wasn't enough appetite among players to keep reliving the old days. According to the studio, LoL Classic will remain playable until the end of the current season, giving you a few more months to jump in if you haven't yet. After that, it's shutting down for good in January 2027.

That's a pretty short lifespan for something that was supposed to tap into nostalgia. Three months is barely enough time to get a ranked climb going, let alone build a lasting community around a classic mode. But Riot's decision suggests the numbers just weren't there.

For those who did enjoy the throwback, you've still got time. The mode isn't disappearing overnight—you can keep playing until the season wraps up. But once January 2027 hits, that's it. No word on whether Riot might try something similar again down the line, but for now, it looks like the classic experiment is over.

It's a reminder that not every nostalgia play works out. Sometimes players want the new hotness, not the old meta. Whether you loved it or barely touched it, LoL Classic's days are numbered.

What do you think—were you a fan of LoL Classic, or are you happy to see it go? Let us know in the comments.
