Remember the last time you stepped into the ring for a Fight Night game? It's been a minute—15 years, to be exact. EA Sports has finally confirmed that its beloved boxing franchise is making a comeback.
The last entry, Fight Night Champion, launched back in 2011 for PS3 and Xbox 360. The series started in 2004 with Fight Night 2004 and delivered sequels in 2005, 2006, and 2009 before Champion closed out the run. Fans have been asking for more ever since.
EA Sports broke the news with a simple message: "To everyone who stayed in our corner: Fight Night is coming back." The announcement came alongside teaser art, but that's all we have for now—no release window, no gameplay details, no feature list.
While Fight Night has been on ice, EA's other combat sports series, UFC, has been keeping the lights on. UFC 6 just launched in June, so the publisher hasn't abandoned the fighting genre entirely.
Before Fight Night, EA actually had another boxing series: Knockout Kings, which debuted in 1998 and ran through 2002. So the company has deep roots in the sweet science.
The timing is interesting, too. This news drops just after EA was acquired by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund. Whether that plays into the revival or not, it's a notable backdrop.
For now, all we can do is wait for more info. But after 15 years, even a teaser feels like a win. Will you be lacing up the gloves when Fight Night returns?
