Espresso Machine Runs Doom, Because of Course It Does

Ever wondered if your morning coffee could come with a side of demon-slaying? Well, wonder no more. A Reddit user by the name of FullExtraction has managed to get the classic 1993 shooter Doom running on a Fellow Espresso Series 1 espresso machine. Yes, you read that right.

The machine's small, circular screen—normally used to select your drink of choice, like an americano or cappuccino—becomes a tiny battlefield. According to the post, the brew button is used to run, the steam button to shoot, and the scroll wheel turns Doomguy left or right. There's even a wider-angle video showing the game in action, running via custom firmware. From the snippet, the frame rate looks surprisingly smooth.

Out of the box, that screen is all about helping you make the perfect cup. It provides a user interface to choose your drink, text directions, and a timer for extraction. But with a little ingenuity, it can also blast demons. This isn't the first time we've seen Doom on an unlikely device, and it certainly won't be the last.

Doom has a legendary reputation for running on just about anything. We've seen it on an Anker smart-charging station without any hardware modifications, on a modified pregnancy test, and even within Fortnite. The espresso machine is just the latest in a long line of weird and wonderful ports.

Meanwhile, the Doom franchise itself is still going strong. Doom: The Dark Ages, the latest entry in the series, arrived in May 2025. Earlier this year, it got an expansion called Revelations. However, shortly after, developer id Software was hit with mass layoffs, which could affect future plans for the studio. Reports suggested they were working on a co-op Doom experience and a Perfect Dark project.

But for now, let's just enjoy the absurdity of making espresso and ripping demons at the same time. It's a testament to the dedication of the Doom community and the endless creativity of tinkerers. Who knows what device will run Doom next?

What do you think? Would you brew a shot while blasting imps, or is this just too silly? Let us know in the comments!
