Cyberpunk 2077 Surprise 2.5 Update Drops This Week

Ready to dive back into Night City? CD Projekt just dropped a surprise announcement: Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a brand-new update, and it's coming this week.

The update, officially version 2.5 and dubbed the Edgerunners 2 Update, launches on Thursday, October 22. The timing is no coincidence—Season 2 of the Netflix animated series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners just premiered today. CD Projekt kept the details under wraps, but the Edgerunners theme is unmistakable.

Naturally, fans are already speculating about what's inside. Will it be just a few cosmetic items tied to the show, or something meatier? Many are hoping for substantial DLC with new content—maybe even an official quest crafted by CD Projekt themselves. The hype is real, and the developers seem to be fueling it. Paweł Sasko, associate game director on the in-development Cyberpunk 2, teased on social media: "So f***ing hyped about what we cooked for you." That's a pretty strong hint that there's more than meets the eye.

It's worth remembering that just a few months ago, in May, CD Projekt insisted it had "no plans" for further Cyberpunk 2077 DLC or expansions. That statement left fans disappointed, especially with the recent announcement of the Songs of the Past expansion for The Witcher 3—a game that's now 11 years old. So this surprise update feels like a welcome reversal, and it's already got players dusting off their copies or redownloading the game in anticipation.

For context, Cyberpunk 2077 has sold an incredible 40 million copies since its December 2020 launch, with 5 million of those sold between November 2025 and July 2026. The game has received one major expansion so far: 2023's Phantom Liberty, which starred Idris Elba. As for the future, Cyberpunk 2 is still a long way off—co-CEO Michał Nowakowski has suggested it won't arrive until at least 2030, and it's further behind The Witcher 4 in development. That makes any new content for the original game all the more precious.
