Cutout: The Grimdark Paper Doll Game Alice Fans Need

Remember American McGee's Alice? The dark, twisted take on Wonderland that still haunts your dreams? If you're still mourning its canceled sequel, I've got something that might just fill that void.

During today's Find Your Next Game showcase at Gamescom, a little gem called Cutout caught my eye. It's a 2D side-scrolling action game where you play a paper doll with a rather gruesome ability: she can snip off and steal the limbs of her enemies. Yes, you read that right.

You control Lena, a 'child of the forest' who's basically a 2D paper doll. After finding a pair of scissors and tapping into her inner rage, she sets off through a grimdark fairytale world. The twist? You can sever enemy limbs and attach them to her body, gaining unique powers. But watch out—enemies can do the same to you, stealing your limbs and using them against you.

The trailer shows off this creepy-cute aesthetic, with a narrator asking, 'Will you claim what they denied you, or heal what they destroyed?' It's a choice that will shape who Lena becomes. From the spooky visuals to the surprisingly violent combat, and even Lena's striped stockings, this game screams Alice vibes, with a dash of Little Nightmares thrown in.

We'll probably never get another Alice game from American McGee, thanks to EA, but Cutout feels like a spiritual successor. It's developed by Italian studio 906 Games, and while there's no official release date yet, it's already up for wishlisting on Steam.

So, will you be adding this to your wishlist? Let me know what you think!
