PlayStation Opens Huge Public Survey, and Physical Disc Fans Are Speaking Up

Sony wants to know what you think about PlayStation — and players are making sure it hears an earful about physical discs.

According to IGN, PlayStation recently put out a public questionnaire open to all adults, and plenty of fans are using it to vent their frustration over Sony's plan to stop producing physical game discs in 2028.

The survey went live on September 25, just days after Sony sent a separate questionnaire to game developers. This one is all about the PS5 experience, asking players to rate things like first-party exclusives, the UI, game performance, online play, the DualSense controller, and their game library.

It also asks which gaming devices you own, including third-party hardware like the Switch, gaming PCs, and VR gear. So yes, Sony is clearly curious about what else is sitting under your TV.

The survey doesn't include any dedicated questions about physical discs. But it does feature several open text boxes where you can write whatever you want — and a lot of people are using that space to protest the disc policy.

Many players are hopeful about what this survey might mean, wondering if it signals Sony is having second thoughts about ditching discs. Back in July, the company officially announced it would stop releasing new games on physical discs starting January 2028, a decision that has drawn heavy criticism across the gaming community.

It's also worth noting that this public survey and the earlier developer-focused one arrived back-to-back, which has only fueled more speculation about where Sony's internal thinking really stands.
