Well, this one stings a little. Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Ember Lab officially announced on October 1 that Kena: Scars of Kosmora, originally set for a 2026 launch, has been pushed back to 2027. If you were counting down the months, it's time to reset the clock.

The good news? The game is still headed to PlayStation 5 and PC. The PS5 version will get both a physical and digital release, while PC players can pick it up digitally via Steam and the Epic Games Store. So your shelf space is still safe, disc collectors.

Ember Lab COO Josh Grier and game writer Thomas Varga explained the delay together on the PlayStation Blog. In their words, the team wants to "deliver a top-tier game that surpasses the quality of our 2021 debut, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, and is bigger in scope," which means they "need a little more time." Moving the window to 2027, they said, "lets us truly polish the expanded experience we want to deliver."

Story-wise, this one picks up after Kena has spent a long time training as a Spirit Guide. She's helped countless souls find peace, but she's been ignoring her own inner wounds. Her childhood friend Orfio believes the mysterious island of Kosmora holds the answers they've both been searching for. So Kena sets off for the island, hoping to help others while also uncovering her own past and future as a Spirit Guide.

Kosmora was once home to four interconnected cultures, each rooted in one of the four elements and built around alchemy temples. A mysterious catastrophe destroyed one of them, burying ancient wisdom along with it. The spiritual symbols of these elements have faded from history, but they still play a big role in the lives of the surviving cultures. Kena will explore these temples, face trials, and earn transformative rewards that push the adventure forward.

Getting around Kosmora on foot takes a lot of time, so Kena gets a crystal canine companion in this one. According to the official description, this ancient island spirit isn't just a mount—it also helps Kena in both mounted and on-foot combat, and assists with alchemy puzzles. The team says this companion's backstory is "directly tied" to the island's origins.

Kena: Scars of Kosmora is confirmed for 2027, with the PS5 physical and digital versions and the PC digital version all launching together. More details will be shared later. Are you willing to wait a bit longer for a bigger, more polished Kena adventure, or does the delay have you howling at the moon? Let us know.
