Valor Mortis Casts Black Metal Frontman Nergal as Captain Raphael

Did you ever think a black metal legend would voice a character in a soulslike? Well, it's happening. Adam "Nergal" Darski, the frontman of Behemoth, has been cast as Captain Raphael in the upcoming game Valor Mortis. If his growls and screams in Behemoth are any indication, we're in for a seriously intense performance.

But here's the kicker: this isn't Nergal's first time in a recording booth. He previously voiced The Black Cat in 2022's Blacktail and narrated Apocalipsis: The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil back in 2018. So he's got some serious voice acting chops.

He's joining a star-studded lineup. Jennifer English, known for Baldur's Gate 3 and Expedition 33, will play The Shrike. James Alexander, who's been in Onimusha: Way of the Sword and Crimson Desert, takes on the role of William Dowsett. And Vincent Cassel, famous for Ocean's Twelve and Ocean's Thirteen, will voice Napoleon Bonaparte. That's quite the cast, right?

Also on board: Mars Lipowski (Call of Duty's Gromsko) as Lucjan Skawinski, Will De Renzy-Martin (The Blood of Dawnwalker's Coen) as James Stewart, and Yvan Chamouiseau as Louis Moreau. With a lineup like this, the game's story is bound to be gripping.

Now, about the game itself. Valor Mortis is a first-person action soulslike from the developer of Ghostrunner. It's set in an alternate 19th century Eastern Europe, where Napoleon's endless war has unleashed a supernatural plague. You play as William, fighting to survive against your former comrades who are now undead monsters. Sounds like a tough fight, doesn't it?

Mark your calendars: Valor Mortis launches on October 13 for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. It'll cost $40, which the developer says is because this fall is packed with releases. Originally, it was set for September 24, but it got pushed back a few weeks due to how busy September was. Smart move, if you ask us.
