Well, that didn't take long. Grand Theft Auto 6 has officially been slapped with an M for Mature rating by the ESRB, and over in the UK, PEGI has given it an 18. Rockstar has already updated the store listings across platforms, so you can now see the rating for yourself when you go to pre-order or wishlist the game.

If you've ever played a Rockstar game, you're probably not shocked. The ESRB summary for GTA 6 mentions blood and gore, intense violence, adult humor, nudity, strong language, strong sexual content, and use of drugs and alcohol. Basically, it's a Rockstar game through and through. IGN pointed out that this is exactly what anyone familiar with the studio's work would expect.

But here's where it gets interesting: the ESRB hasn't released a detailed rating breakdown yet. Those longer reports usually cite specific scenes and moments, and they can sometimes spoil bits of the plot. So for now, we're left with the broad strokes—and a lot of questions.

One of the biggest questions on players' minds is whether Jason and Lucia will have an actual sex scene. A detailed rating report might answer that, but we don't have one yet. So for now, it's just speculation.

The rating also mentions "in-game purchases." That's a bit of a eyebrow-raiser, especially since Rockstar said this summer that GTA 6 has "no microtransactions." But that likely refers to the standard-to-ultimate edition upgrade, which offers extra cosmetics, shops, and missions. So don't panic just yet.

As for online mode, Rockstar has been completely silent. We don't expect it to launch alongside the base game. But given how much money GTA Online has made over the years, it's almost impossible to imagine a future online component without microtransactions. Rumors suggest it might arrive sometime in 2027.

So there you have it: GTA 6 is officially for grown-ups only. If you're a parent, maybe think twice before buying this one for the kids. And if you're a fan, well, you already knew what you were getting into. What do you think about the rating? Let us know in the comments!
