Ever wonder what Nathan Drake would say if Sony came knocking for Uncharted 5? Nolan North, the man behind the wisecracking treasure hunter, is more than ready.
Speaking at the Gamergy show in Puerto Rico (via DomTheBomb / VGC), North revealed he's been keeping fit just in case the call comes. "You know, I try to stay in shape, just in case," he said. "It was 10 years of work with good friends, good people, a great developer. I can't see a scenario that I would say no."
That's a pretty strong endorsement. And he's not just being polite—North thinks a new Uncharted would be massive. "I think it would be one of the biggest games ever if they decided to do it," he said. "It just depends if Sony wants to make money." He added, "I haven't heard anything, but you know, it is a business and my God, can you imagine if they did? I mean, it would be the biggest announcement in gaming. And I don't think that's hyperbole, I think that's true."
But North also has a warning. He doesn't want a repeat of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull—a sequel that many fans felt tarnished the franchise. "You just don't want to make a Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," he said. It's a fair point: bringing back a beloved series is risky, and Naughty Dog would need to nail it.
So, what's actually happening with Uncharted? Sony hasn't announced anything officially, but rumors are swirling. Naughty Dog has confirmed multiple games in development, including the upcoming Intergalactic: Heretic Prophet. It's believed that Shaun Escayg, who directed Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, is leading a team on a new Uncharted entry. That's exciting, but still unconfirmed.
It's been a decade since Uncharted 4 wrapped up Nathan Drake's story. The long gap has fans speculating about a new adventure—maybe one starring Drake's daughter, Cassie. Nothing's set in stone, but the possibility is tantalizing.
For now, North is ready and willing. And if Uncharted 5 does happen, it could be one of the biggest gaming events ever. What do you think? Would you want another Uncharted, or should Nathan Drake stay retired?
