Have you ever looked out your window and thought you saw a GTA car cruising by? That's basically what's happening in Miami right now. Eagle-eyed Rockstar fans have noticed camera crews filming convoys of flashy, GTA 6-themed cars around the city, and the internet is convinced a live-action trailer is in the works.
Rockstar has been taking over Miami for weeks as it builds hype for GTA 6, which is set in a fictional version of the city called Vice City. The studio has plastered ads all over town, sent a Vice City blimp flying over Florida, and even announced a Vice City-themed NBA game with the Miami Heat in November. It's an unprecedented marketing push that has literally turned the city into a real-life version of GTA's universe.
But some things are happening right under Miamians' noses without much explanation. Fans have spotted exotic sports cars driving around in convoys, sometimes joined by a camera crew. These aren't just any cars—they're modified to resemble vehicles from the GTA series. In videos and photos shared by fans, you can see in-universe car brands like Grotti (a Ferrari parody) and Emerus (a McLaren parody) on the vehicles zooming around.
One fan on X posted footage of what they called "filming of a separate video or trailer for GTA VI" in Miami. Another shared a photo of Rockstar Games and West Coast Customs popping up in Key Biscayne for GTA 6 promo. A third wrote, "Got pictures and several videos of the GTA 6 cars driving around Miami! Absolutely insane!"
There's a widespread belief online that Rockstar intentionally released the latest trailer significantly earlier so it could drop another GTA 6 video—this one filmed in real life—before the game launches. Over the past two days, Miami has seen a lot of activity: camera operators working, GTA 6 ads placed around the city, and graffiti pieces that don't mention GTA 6 but simply read "Vice City." The same "Welcome to Vice City" inscription is also on the stadium.
Presumably, all of this was done not only as part of a PR campaign but also to film the main trailer against a backdrop of streets that will look identical to GTA 6's locations—same billboards, graffiti, and cars with similar license plates. Some fans speculate the video could drop on the day the game becomes available for pre-installation.
As of now, Rockstar hasn't addressed any of this advertising and has let it speak for itself. There have also been reports that Rockstar will release real-life versions of GTA beer brands soon, following listings on a government database. It's anyone's guess what all this is being used for, but all signs point to GTA. Rockstar has already announced its Miami Heat sponsored game will be called "A Night in Vice City," so maybe there are plans for more city-wide activities beyond the basketball game.
Either way, this is some next-level marketing and shows Rockstar is sparing no expense. GTA 6 will release on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. What do you think—will you be keeping an eye out for GTA cars in your city?
