Ever wished PvP in World of Warcraft was less of a headache? Well, Blizzard is shaking things up with WoW: Forever, and their new approach to player-versus-player combat is raising eyebrows—and not just because it's simpler.
In a recent post, Blizzard explained that WoW: Forever won't copy retail or Classic PvP. Instead, they're aiming for a system that's "Approachable and Familiar," simplifying the original Honor System while staying true to its roots. The goal? Give you more reasons to jump into matches throughout the season while keeping that competitive spirit alive.
So how does it work? There are two main parts: Honor and Rank Points. Honor is your currency, earned by doing PvP stuff, and Blizzard promises more consistent acquisition rates. Rank Points come from specific activities like battlegrounds and certain quests. You'll climb toward titles like Grand Marshal or High Warlord, depending on your faction—just like the old days.
But here's the catch: ranks have a weekly cap. Blizzard says this retains the foundation of the original system while making the journey more accessible. Sure, it's easier, but it also means you'll need to grind every week to keep up. And that's not sitting well with some players.
Seasons add another layer. During a PvP season, you progress through ranks and earn Honor, plus there's a journey with weekly tasks. Completing these tasks grants Honor and Rank Points, and three tasks per season also give a Legacy Point. Because they're tied to the Legacy System, these tasks remain available in future seasons. But the weekly requirement has fans worried. Comments like "Please don't do the weeklies thing" and "Having to farm every freaking week without taking any break is not fun" echo a common concern: forced weekly checkboxes.
Despite the pushback, Blizzard is confident. They say PvP in WoW: Forever gives players "a clear path to jump in, compete, and keep building toward what comes next." With more ways to progress each week, they believe it's accessible and engaging. But will it feel like a chore? Only time will tell when the MMO launches on November 4.
What do you think of WoW: Forever's PvP system? Are you excited for the simpler approach, or does the weekly grind turn you off? Let us know in the comments!
