Street Fighter Movie's Guile Theme Adds Guitar Solo, Still Goes With Everything

Remember when Guile's Theme went with literally everything? The Street Fighter movie is counting on that nostalgia. The film's version of the classic track sticks close to the original but throws in a kickass guitar solo and some cinematic flair, letting the main theme do all the heavy lifting. Guile's Theme is one of those evergreen memes from the late 2000s and early 2010s. YouTube was flooded with 10-hour loops, and while it's not as ubiquitous now, it's still instantly recognizable. The original debuted in the 1991 arcade release of Street Fighter II and was composed by Yoko Shimomura. For the movie, the score was produced by Leo Birenberg and Zach Robinson (Cobra Kai), who credit the original game soundtracks with shaping their musical identities.

"As young and budding composers, we listened to Yoko Shimomura's iconic Guile's Theme probably more than Raiders of the Lost Ark," the duo said in a press statement. "We hope fans will hear the love and reverence we hold for this music within our version of Guile's Theme." That's a pretty high bar, but if anyone can do it justice, it's these two.

The full Street Fighter soundtrack will feature 39 tracks in total and drops on October 16, the same day the movie hits theaters. The film is leaning fully into the absurdity of its source material, with WWE performer Cody Rhodes playing Guile.
