Arc Raiders TV & Movie Adaptations: Character-Driven Stories Coming

Ever wonder what an Arc Raiders TV show or movie would look like? You're not alone. Following the announcement that adaptations are in the works at Chernin Entertainment, executive producer Aleksander Grøndal from Embark Studios hinted that the screen versions might focus more on characters than the game does.

In an interview, Grøndal said the team is excited to explore different stories within the Arc Raiders universe. "We feel like we have created a world that's fertile ground to tell all kinds of different stories," he said. "I think it's really interesting to try to explore that, what that would mean, and see what comes out of it." He added that while concepts are still being developed, he's eager to see how far they can take it.

The game itself is pretty hands-off with its narrative. You get bits of lore through thin quests, short cutscenes, and cinematic trailers, but the real story emerges from your own experiences—fighting over resources, backstabbing, and those surprisingly frequent temporary alliances. That works for an interactive game, but a TV series or film might need something clearer to carry the plot.

Grøndal agrees. "I think you're absolutely right," he said. "We feel like we have created a world that's fertile ground to tell all kinds of different stories." He's excited to see what concepts come out of it, though he notes that Embark isn't a TV or film crew—they'll be working with Chernin Entertainment, who will take the reins.

Even so, Embark will be involved. "Of course, we will be involved in some capacity," Grøndal said. "It's important for us to find a partner that we really can trust, and that understands what Arc Raiders is and what we're trying to do, and can capture the essence of what makes this brand interesting and special." He believes they've found that in Chernin, and while they'll let the craftsmen do their thing, Embark will provide input to keep the brand coherent with their vision.

Arc Raiders is set in the late 22nd century, where humanity is struggling to survive and repel a machine threat that has taken over Earth's surface. The world has a retrofuturist vibe that fans of the Fallout TV series might enjoy, and the mystery of the titular Arc's origins—which will seemingly be addressed in-game soon—adds a compelling hook.

In a world where the Fallout show is remarkably good, an Arc Raiders adaptation could work well if Chernin anchors it in characters more compelling than the game's purpose-before-personality cast. It's an exciting prospect for fans eager to see this universe expanded beyond the interactive medium.
