Why GTA 6 Skipping PC and Online at Launch Is a Good Thing

Helldivers 2's CEO shares why he's happy GTA 6 won't have a PC version or online mode at launch, giving his game room to thrive.

Why GTA 6 Skipping PC and Online at Launch Is a Good Thing

Ever wonder if the gaming world can handle two massive live-service hits at once? Helldivers 2's boss thinks so, and he's actually relieved that GTA 6 is taking its sweet time.

In a recent statement, Arrowhead Game Studios CEO Sham Jorjani admitted he's 'selfishly happy' that GTA 6 won't hit PC or include an online mode right away. Why? Because it means Helldivers 2 can 'keep crushing it' in its own lane without being overshadowed by Rockstar's juggernaut.

Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6 will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, but there's been no word on a PC version. And while they've called it a 'single-player experience,' they haven't outright said no to online at launch. But Jorjani isn't worried—he sees it as a smart move.

He praised Rockstar for having 'the brand power to confidently take their time and run their classic play.' Instead of chasing trends, they're sticking to what works. 'They have the confidence and freedom to spend a decade doing things the old-school way because they know the core game will deliver. It's going to raise the bar for sure,' he said.

This isn't unprecedented. GTA 5 also launched without online mode, and the PC version came later. So history might repeat itself with GTA 6. That gives Helldivers 2—and other games—a window to shine before the big dog enters the ring.

The hype for GTA 6 is unreal, especially after fans waited 13 years since GTA 5. But even with all that anticipation, Jorjani believes Rockstar's approach is a win for everyone. 'It's awesome that games like this get made,' he added.

So, while we're all counting down to November 19, maybe it's a good thing GTA 6 isn't trying to do everything at once. It gives us time to enjoy other games without feeling like we're missing out. And when Rockstar does drop the full experience, it'll be worth the wait.

What do you think? Are you glad GTA 6 is taking its time, or are you already counting the days? Let us know!
