Wolverine Update Lets You Turn Off Scent Trails

Ever felt like Marvel's Wolverine was holding your hand a little too much? You're not alone. Insomniac Games has heard the complaints and just dropped a new update that lets you turn off those controversial scent trails and other in-game hints.

The patch, version 1.001.006, adds three new toggle settings: one for Whiskey Bottle scent trails, one for Material Crate Audio Clues, and one for Nightmare Door Roots. These were the features that had players up in arms, calling the game too 'hand-holdy.' Now you can switch them off if you'd rather explore without the wavy visuals or audio pings guiding you.

But there's a catch: if you use Wolverine's Crate Finder or Whiskey Finder Adaptations, those will override your toggles. And story-critical senses—like the one that helps Logan track Jean in The One That Got Away mission—will still show up no matter what. Insomniac did make those story trails less intrusive last week by reducing their opacity, so they're not as in-your-face as before.

Beyond the toggles, this update also tackles a bunch of bugs and crashes. Remember that viral clip of Logan getting his claws stuck while sliding down a tree? That's fixed. Misaligned claws in Photo Mode? Fixed. And those weird bathroom signs that had players accusing Insomniac of using generative AI? The studio denied it and explained the UV mapping issue, and now the overlapping sign in the casino is fixed too.

It's been a wild launch for Marvel's Wolverine, which hit PS5 on September 15, 2026. Instead of everyone raving about the mutant-filled story or bloody action, the conversation got dominated by scent trails, a motorcycle chase, and 'fart gas.' Insomniac has been quick to respond, with studio director of community and marketing James Stevenson tweeting, "As I have said we continue to listen and work with the team to address feedback and requests."
