Ever found yourself groaning every time you see a Roadhog hook fly across the map or a Sombra sneak up behind you? You're definitely not alone — and Blizzard has finally heard the complaints.
During BlizzCon 2026's opening ceremony, Overwatch announced that both Roadhog and Sombra are getting major reworks. These are two of the game's most veteran heroes, and they've been the source of plenty of frustration for players over the years. Now, it looks like that frustration is finally being addressed.
The biggest shake-up? Sombra is pivoting to become a support hero. That's a huge shift for a character who has spent her entire existence in the damage role, hacking and harassing enemies from the shadows. It's a change that could completely reshape how teams use her — and how opponents have to deal with her.
Roadhog, meanwhile, is getting changes designed to make him more of a team player. If you've ever watched a Hog go off on his own flanking adventure while the rest of the team fights for their lives, you know exactly why this adjustment makes sense. Overwatch director Aaron Keller hasn't shared the specifics yet, but he did mention that players will be far less annoyed by Roadhog's hook in particular. That alone should have plenty of players breathing a sigh of relief.
Of course, the details are still under wraps. Keller and the Overwatch team haven't revealed exactly how these reworks will play out, so we don't know the full scope of the changes just yet. But the direction is clear: Blizzard wants Roadhog to be a better teammate and Sombra to fill a completely different role on the roster.
It's worth noting that this has been a long time coming. Both heroes have been criticized for years, and the community has been vocal about wanting changes. Announcing these reworks on the BlizzCon stage signals that Blizzard is ready to make some bold moves with its veteran cast.
We'll be keeping an eye out for more specifics on Sombra and Roadhog's changes as they're revealed. Until then, the speculation is already running wild — will support Sombra actually work? Can Roadhog finally be fun to play against?
What do you think of these reworks? Are you excited to see Sombra in a support role, or are you worried about what it means for your matches? Let us know in the comments!
