Blumhouse and MatPat Team Up for Indie Horror Movies, Starting with Amanda the Adventurer

What if the creepy indie games you've watched on YouTube suddenly hit the big screen? That's exactly what Blumhouse and YouTube star MatPat are planning. At New York Comic Con 2026, they announced a partnership to create a series of movies based on viral indie horror games, with Amanda the Adventurer as the first project.

MatPat, known for his popular theory videos, shared his excitement during the panel: "I am proud to announce that I'm working with Blumhouse to launch some new movies. I am taking some of my all-time favorite indie games and horror channels from the interwebs and partnering with Blumhouse to bring them to the big screen." He also mentioned having "a few projects in the works" with the studio.

Amanda the Adventurer is a first-person puzzle-solving horror game where you unravel a mystery tied to a low-budget animated children's show. MatPat described it as "horror with heart," adding, "Amanda is this horrifying but tragic character. It asks the question, 'Can you trust the media being put in front of your kids?'" Talks with writers and directors are already underway, and MatPat says they're "actually moving fast" to get it made.

This news follows a trend of YouTubers stepping into film. Jacksepticeye recently revealed he's helming an animated Bloodborne movie, and Markiplier stunned audiences with his self-funded horror film Iron Lung. Indie horror games have long thrived online, and studios are finally taking notice—especially after the success of Kane Parson's Backrooms earlier this year. That film's popularity led to greenlights for other creepypasta adaptations like The Mandela Catalogue, Siren Head, and even The SCP Foundation.

With Amanda the Adventurer's viral following, speculation is already swirling about what MatPat and Blumhouse might tackle next. Could a Puppet Combo movie be in the cards? CoryxKenshin's YouTube channel is a treasure trove of such content, and Nun Massacre in theaters would be wild. But for now, all eyes are on Amanda.

What do you think? Are you excited to see Amanda the Adventurer on the big screen, or do you have another indie horror game you'd love to see adapted? Let us know in the comments!
