Cyberpunk 2077 2.5 Update Adds Console Mods & Edgerunners 2 Prequel

Ever wanted to install mods on your console without jumping through hoops? Cyberpunk 2077's 2.5 update just made that a reality. CD PROJEKT RED dropped the free "Edgerunners 2 Update" on October 22, timed with the Netflix anime's release, and it's packed with goodies for both console and PC players.

The headliner is cross-platform mod support via mod.io. Now you can browse and install official player-created mods directly from the in-game menu on PC, Mac, PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. No more external tools just to manage mods on PC. CDPR says this is only the first step and more mods will be added over time. Just keep in mind: loading a save with mods will disable achievements or trophies, and this isn't a free-for-all for every PC mod out there.

On the story side, there's a new side quest called "No Prison Without Bars" (無獄無囚) set before the events of Edgerunners 2. You'll get to meet anime-related characters and explore a prison scene. To unlock it, finish the main quest "The Heist," complete two of Wakako's gigs, then wait for her message. Completing it nets you five pieces of gear from the anime character's team.

Night City also gets a new radio station, "Trigger (HKGN) 102.0 FM," playing music from the Edgerunners series. Plus, a new side quest "Welcome to Paradise!" lets you explore Night City with narration from founder Richard Night—unlocked after completing "The Heist" and reaching Street Cred level 15. And if you're a tarot collector, 12 new Minor Arcana cards are scattered around the city, expanding the "Fool on the Hill" quest. Scan any new card to start, and collect them all for a special reward.

Combat and customization got some love too. The Cool skill tree adds a "Choom" specialization with four sub-specializations, letting you dual-wield power pistols or revolvers. Photo mode now supports dual-wield poses and custom card frames inspired by the Cyberpunk trading card game. You can also visit five new "Chrome Doctors" to change the appearance and color of hand cyberware like Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire, and Projectile Launch System—each with their own storefront, voice lines, and animations.

Quality-of-life improvements include save slots grouped by playthrough, item filters for apartment and vehicle storage, and an FOV slider on consoles. PC players get NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 support, up to 6x multi-frame generation, and second-gen Transformer models. Compatible Samsung Odyssey 3D monitors can use glasses-free 3D with dynamic comfort settings. Ray tracing and PS5 Pro performance are improved, HDR is better, and bugs like Switch 2 save space errors and PS5 HDR issues are fixed.

The update is out now on PC, Mac (Steam, GOG, Epic), PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo Switch 2 and Mac App Store versions are coming in the next few days. Will you be diving back into Night City for this one?
