Baldur's Gate 3's Jennifer English Joins Valor Mortis Cast

Ever wondered what happens when a Game of the Year magnet teams up with a Soulslike? Well, wonder no more. Jennifer English, known for her roles in Baldur's Gate 3 and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, is joining the cast of Valor Mortis, the upcoming first-person Soulslike from Ghostrunner developer One More Level.

Valor Mortis was originally supposed to launch last week, but the devs delayed it to mid-October before even announcing a release date. Now, the game is set to launch on October 13 for $40. And with Crimson Desert's DLC delayed, the date just got a little less crowded. The devs are positioning it as the game you pick up alongside heavy hitters like GTA 6 and the Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake.

We already knew that Vincent Cassel would be leading the game as Napoleon Bonaparte. But now, the game's Twitter account has revealed the rest of the cast. James Alexander, who you might know from Dragon's Dogma 2 and Baldur's Gate 3, will play the protagonist William Dowsett. And Jennifer English will take on the role of The Shrike.

English's track record is impressive. After Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 all swept their respective Game of the Year awards, many have called her a good luck charm for GOTY wins. Her Clair Obscur co-star Ben Starr even said that Marathon could be a contender, but with that likely not happening, maybe Valor Mortis could be a surprise contender? No pressure, right?

The director of Valor Mortis has also spoken about the AA games industry, saying it needs "a few more Expedition 33s" before publishers stop seeing smaller games as a major financial risk. So this game isn't just another Soulslike—it's a test case for the future of mid-budget games.
