Control Resonant PC Test: RX 7000 Cards Get Native FSR 4.1

Seven years is a long wait, but Remedy Entertainment is finally back with Control Resonant, the proper sequel to Control. And yes, it's still built on Remedy's own Northlight engine.

This time the stage isn't the claustrophobic Oldest House. It's Manhattan, twisted and warped by supernatural forces. You won't be playing Jesse Faden either. Instead, you step into the shoes of her brother Dylan Faden, searching for his missing sister while fighting the mysterious "Resonance" that keeps eating away at reality.

Gameplay-wise, Control Resonant leans further into Action RPG territory than the first game's shooter-heavy action adventure. Expect richer melee combat, more psychic abilities, and full 3D movement mechanics, all spread across several massive zones packed with exploration, side quests, and hidden content.

On the graphics side, Remedy is sticking to its aggressive playbook. Control Resonant supports full ray tracing and path tracing, plus native FSR 4.1 upscaling and FSR frame generation. That last part matters: it's one of the few games out there that lets Radeon RX 7000 series cards run FSR 4.1 directly.

There's a catch, though. The game hasn't adopted AMD's FSR Ray Regeneration tech yet. In high-end ray tracing and especially path tracing scenes, Radeon GPUs still have to lean on traditional denoising paired with FSR upscaling to reconstruct the image. That means performance pressure stays real when the lighting gets complicated.

The testing here digs into how RX 9000 and RX 7000 series cards actually perform across different resolutions in Control Resonant. If you're running Team Red and wondering whether your GPU can handle Remedy's latest, that's the question worth answering.

One thing to keep in mind: the game is out on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, so there's no shortage of ways to play. But for AMD owners, the FSR 4.1 support on RX 7000 hardware is the headline feature to watch.
