Pro CS2 Players Swear By Higher Polling Rates—Should You Switch?

Ever wondered if your mouse's polling rate is holding you back in Counter-Strike 2? I recently got to chat with two pros from Luminosity Gaming, Azuwu and yxngstxr, and their takes on polling rates might just make you reconsider your setup.

For context, I've been a die-hard 1 kHz user. I've tried 8K before and honestly couldn't tell much of a difference. Plus, sticking to 1K saves battery life and avoids potential stuttering on some systems. Our own James also tested different polling rates and didn't find a consistent benefit. So I was pretty skeptical when I asked the pros about it.

Azuwu didn't hesitate: "I'd say there's a difference from 1 to 2K and then, after that, 8K you don't even reach anyway. So it's only 2K or 4K, but they're both fine. I play at 4K." That's a clear endorsement for stepping up from 1K, but he also suggests that going all the way to 8K might be overkill.

yxngstxr, on the other hand, keeps it old-school. "1K is the minimum. If you play 4K, it's going to be way smoother—not 'way' [smoother], but you will notice it. It's a smoother motion than if you put it at 1K... I'm on 800 [DPI], 1 kHz... because usually I like to flick." He explained that low-sensitivity players who prefer smooth tracking often go for higher polling rates, while flick-heavy players like himself stick to 1K. "The low-sensitivity player, because they're not moving a lot, they like the smooth feeling. If you have low-sens, you're usually not a flicky guy. That's why the low-sens players usually play like 2K, 4K, like peak Niko."

So there you have it: if you're a low-sens, smooth-aiming player, upgrading to 2K or 4K might give you that extra edge. But if you're all about flicks, 1K could still be your sweet spot. As for me? I'm going to give higher polling rates a proper test. Who knows, maybe my FaceIt rank will finally climb.
