Ever tried to buy a Pokémon TCG Elite Trainer Box only to find it sold out or priced at double MSRP? This week, Amazon is giving trainers a shot at the 30th Celebration ETB for just $59.99—if you can snag an invite.
That's a huge savings compared to the $120+ market price you'd see on TCGplayer or from resellers. The catch? You need an invite to buy, which is a big if. But it's a far cry from the stress of short drop windows and inflated prices.
Amazon isn't alone. Best Buy has been running a similar invite system for the elusive Prismatic Evolutions ETB, selling it for $49.99 to invited customers. When you request an invite, you're added to a list for consideration for future stock drops. If selected, you'll get an email and have 24 hours to complete your purchase before the invite expires.
Because of that narrow window, Best Buy recommends downloading their app for real-time alerts. And don't worry if you're not picked this time—your request stays on file for future restocks, so you don't need to re-request each time. That goes for both Amazon and Best Buy.
While jumping through hoops can be frustrating, this invite system does level the playing field a bit. It gives more people a chance to open, collect, and play with cards rather than letting resellers scoop up all the stock. It's a small win for trainers, but a win nonetheless.
For those looking to rip packs, we've also got the median market prices for the top 10 highest-value cards in the 30th anniversary set, so you know what to chase. Good luck!
