Marvel's Wolverine is almost here, and if you're wondering how it runs on PS5 versus PS5 Pro, a new technical breakdown has you covered. The game launches September 15 on PS5, and review embargoes just lifted, so we're finally getting real numbers.
The crew over at ElAnalistaDeBits dropped a comparison video showing exactly what Insomniac Games has cooked up for both consoles. Spoiler: it's a lot of options, similar to what we saw with Marvel's Spider-Man 2. On base PS5, you get a Quality Mode and a Performance Mode. On PS5 Pro, you get Quality Enhanced and Performance Enhanced, plus an Advanced Ray Tracing option in Quality Mode.
So what's actually different between the modes? It mostly comes down to internal render resolution, reflections, and shadows. Quality Mode renders at 2160p–1440p, while Performance Mode drops to 1440p–1080p. Both versions and all modes support VRR to unlock the frame rate. In the uncapped frame rate mode, some scenes can dip below 1080p, which sounds familiar if you played Spider-Man 2.
The big PS5 vs PS5 Pro differences come from PSSR image quality improvements, plus some reflection and global illumination detail changes, especially with Advanced Ray Tracing enabled. On base PS5, Quality Mode locks at 30 FPS and Performance Mode locks at 60 FPS. But if you're using a 120Hz display with VRR, Quality Mode can get close to 60 FPS, and Performance Mode can peak above 100 FPS. That's a huge jump for smoothness.
Here's a nice bonus: Advanced Ray Tracing on PS5 Pro only costs about 3 to 4 frames, so it's absolutely worth turning on. ElAnalistaDeBits recommends PS5 owners go with Quality Mode plus uncapped VRR, while PS5 Pro players should pick Quality Enhanced + Advanced Ray Tracing with uncapped VRR for the best experience.
