Kojima's Physint: Xbox Budget Reportedly Tighter Than PlayStation's

Did you hear the latest buzz about Hideo Kojima's next big game? Physint, his return to stealth-action, is now an Xbox project after Microsoft swooped in, but word on the street is that the budget might not be as huge as it was when PlayStation was involved.

According to industry insiders and Tokyo gossip, Kojima Productions is working with a tighter wallet under Microsoft than it would have with Sony. That's a big shift, especially since Kojima is known for his ambitious, cinematic games. The game still has star power, with Bill Skarsgård attached to the lead role, but the financial backing seems to have changed.

Why does this matter? For starters, Kojima Productions likely lost access to Sony's proprietary Decima Engine, which was used for Death Stranding. That means they might have to rebuild tech from scratch, eating into both time and money. Plus, we don't know how much work was already done on Physint before the switch, or how much of it can be carried over.

To put things in perspective, rumors put Death Stranding 2's budget somewhere between $150-200 million, and Insomniac's Spider-Man 2 reportedly cost $300 million. Those are huge numbers, and if Xbox is tightening the purse strings, Physint might not get that same level of investment. Microsoft's ongoing financial pressures and its recent studio cuts could be incentives to keep costs down.

Whether Sony pulled out suddenly, as Kojima claims, or after months of negotiations, as Bloomberg alleges, Kojima wasn't exactly negotiating from a position of strength. His studio's health and his employees' livelihoods were on the line. That's a lot of pressure, and it's hard to imagine it leads to the healthiest working conditions.

One more thing that's got people talking: Schreier mentioned "certain A-list actors attached" to Physint, and the first public image of the protagonist looks a lot more like Robert Pattinson than Bill Skarsgård. Could Pattinson be involved? Maybe, but that's just speculation for now.
