Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2 Set in 2078, Confirms CDPR Lore Master

Were you one of those fans assuming Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 2 takes place before 2077? Well, think again. CD Projekt Red loremaster Patrick Mills just set the record straight: the new season is set in 2078.

Mills took to Bluesky to clear things up. "Ok so the thing is that I am seeing a lot of people assuming s2 takes place before 2077 but it doesn't, it takes place in 2078," he wrote. "Moving things forward, time doesn't stop in Cyberpunk." He also noted that there are clues in the show pointing to this, but the studio never made it explicit.

So what are those clues? Sharp-eyed fans have already picked them apart. For starters, Arasaka's lower standing in Night City likely ties directly to the player's actions in Cyberpunk 2077. Then there's Soulkiller being duplicated, and the sense that more time has passed since David's journey in season 1, which took place around 2076.

Interestingly, Edgerunners creator Bartosz Sztybor was less forthcoming. When asked about the timeline, he called it "a spoiler" and teased, "There are things in the story that will answer your question, but I don't want to make the statement that it's before 2077 or after." But CDPR just went ahead and spelled it out for everyone.

Meanwhile, a second Cyberpunk game codenamed Project Orion is in the works, though there's no word yet on where it falls in the timeline. And if you're hungry for more Edgerunners, Cyberpunk 2077 has been updated with Edgerunners 2 content, plus the ability to dual-wield weapons. Nova.

What do you think about the time jump? Will you be picking up the new season?
