Have you ever imagined the ultimate video game concert? With so many game music events popping up lately, it's hard not to dream big.
Over the past few years, there's been a huge upsurge in video game concerts, particularly in the UK. We've seen shows for Undertale, The Legend of Zelda, Stardew Valley, The Witcher 3, Sonic, Metaphor: ReFantazio, Final Fantasy, and many more. It's been a heartwarming sight, even if half of them happen in London—a city that's both too far for a casual evening and too "London" to visit more than twice a year.
Still, we can't help but yearn for more of our favorite songs performed live. So we got to thinking: what would our ultimate video game concert look like? For starters, we'd throw in a whole lot of Square Enix goodness à la Distant Worlds—think Final Fantasy 10, 12, 14, and a bit of 13 on the side. And we'd absolutely kill to hear Kingdom Hearts music with a live orchestra.
Then we'd pivot away from JRPGs to revisit some childhood favorites. The soundtrack from Rare's Kameo: Elements of Power still obsesses us 20 years later, and it totally deserves the full orchestral treatment. To wrap it all up? A DJ set full of remixes from classic Tekken games. Is that a major tonal shift? Yes, but it's our dream concert, not yours. Get your own!
No, seriously—what would your dream concert look like? Is there a concert that already exists that you're desperately hoping will come to a city near you? Or would you concoct some messed-up megamix even more cursed than ours? Leave a comment and let us know!
