Remember when Star Wars: Battlefront 3 was reportedly shelved years ago? Well, it might be time to dust off your blaster—because a new report says the game is back in development.
According to Variety, EA has confirmed that it's "bringing together our Respawn and DICE studios to collaborate on a future project," and that project is reportedly Star Wars: Battlefront 3. The news comes just days after rumors of a revival and team-up between the two studios surfaced online.
For context, EA closed beloved RPG studio BioWare earlier this week, and in the wake of that closure, the company is already outlining plans for its other studios and franchises. In a joint memo to employees from EA execs Cam Weber and David Tinson, the company said it will continue to "invest heavily" in Respawn's Apex Legends franchise over the next few years. It also reaffirmed its commitment to Marvel's Iron Man and the next Star Wars Jedi game, which it calls its "two huge launches coming up" in its action-adventure vertical.
As for Battlefront 3, details are still scarce—no release window, platforms, or gameplay specifics have been announced. But if it follows in the footsteps of DICE's first two rebooted Battlefront games, you can probably expect an arcade-style shooter that's fun to play solo or with friends, even if it doesn't offer deep mechanics, systems, or story.
The original Battlefront series from the 2000s had a dedicated following, and the modern reboot from DICE delivered stunning visuals and large-scale battles. A third entry has been a long-requested dream for fans, so this rumor—if true—is a big deal.
Of course, it's worth noting that EA hasn't officially named the project as Battlefront 3; that detail comes from Variety's reporting. But the confirmation of a Respawn and DICE collaboration is a strong signal that something Star Wars-related is in the works.
