Kojima Gives Nod to Fan-Made P.T. PC Port

Did you ever want to play P.T. but couldn't because it was yanked from the PlayStation Store? Well, a fan-made PC port is bringing the horror demo back from the dead, and Hideo Kojima himself has acknowledged it.

P.T. (short for "Playable Teaser") launched in August 2014 as a free demo for the cancelled Silent Hills game. It was a collaboration between Kojima and filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, starring Norman Reedus. But after a falling out between Kojima and Konami, the project was scrapped and the demo was removed from the PlayStation Store in 2015. For years, the only way to play it was on a PS4 that still had it installed—until now.

A modder named LoreanXavier has been working tirelessly on a PC port that runs natively on Windows. According to LoreanXavier, the project is about 97% complete. On his Discord server, he explained that this isn't an emulator or a remake; he's essentially reverse-engineering the PS4 executable using the game's original assets, C++, and Vulkan. The result is a 1:1 version of P.T., complete with the same house, original content, Lua scripts, loops, events, progression, and ending puzzle. It even includes the voice-recognition section.

"I've played through it myself. The game hasn't been turned into a different story or a new set of puzzles," LoreanXavier said. "Rendering is implemented for PC, and remaining graphical differences are being addressed separately. Optional enhanced graphics can change its appearance without changing the base game." 30 minutes of gameplay is already up on YouTube, and fans are begging him to open-source the code in case of a copyright strike.

But the biggest surprise came when Hideo Kojima retweeted a GameRant article about the port. That simple action sent shockwaves through the community. LoreanXavier responded on Twitter/X: "The GOAT himself acknowledged my port. I am speechless. Seeing Hideo Kojima notice something I've poured so much time and passion into genuinely means the world to me. Thank you so much."

Kojima is known for engaging with his fans online, often retweeting fan art. Given that Silent Hills never saw the light of day, it's heartwarming to see P.T. get a second life after a decade in limbo. Meanwhile, Kojima's next horror game, OD, is still in development, with Hunter Schafer and Sophia Lillis attached to star. Some fans even think OD might be connected to P.T. in some way.

So, will you be downloading this fan-made port when it's finished? Or are you still holding out hope for an official Silent Hills revival? Let us know in the comments!
