Ever wanted to dress Rayman up like a walking French stereotype? You're in luck. Rayman Legends Retold, the upcoming remake of the beloved platformer, is adding baguette-themed costumes for Rayman and Barbara, and they're a not-so-subtle wink at another French game: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Ubisoft didn't name Sandfall Interactive or Expedition 33 directly, but it confirmed the new outfits are "a playful nod to a fellow game" made in Montpellier. Since Sandfall is also based in Montpellier, the connection is pretty obvious. In a press release, Ubisoft called the costumes "a tribute from one French studio to another" and said they celebrate the "creativity, passion, and unmistakably French touch" of the country's game industry.

The outfit itself is peak French: a white shirt with black pinstripes, black pants with suspenders, a red beret, and a baguette tucked into a red-and-white plaid cloth. It's the kind of look that would make Groundskeeper Willie proud. But unlocking it for each character in the hit RPG isn't a walk in the park—you'll need to defeat secret mime mini-bosses scattered around the map.

Interestingly, the baguette costume isn't unique to either game. It draws on 19th-century naval uniforms, Basque headwear, and "Onion Johnny" door-to-door traders. Over time, those elements became shorthand for France, adopted by artists like Pablo Picasso and fashion icon Jean Paul Gaultier. You've probably seen con-goers rocking similar outfits—it's an easy, low-cost, and comfortable cosplay.

Ubisoft says the baguette costumes will be available to all players at launch. Rayman Legends Retold launches on December 3 for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2. It's the second big Ubisoft remake this year, following Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced in July.
