Remember the Shrek 2 co-op game from the original Xbox days? It's back, and it's coming sooner than you think. During today's ID@Xbox showcase for October 2026, Aspyr Media announced Shrek 2 Remastered, a modern version of Activision's cult classic tie-in game, launching on Xbox Series X/S on November 10.
The reveal trailer gave us a peek at how fan-favorite playable characters like Shrek, Fiona, Donkey, and Gingy have been upgraded with improved graphics and new features. If you missed being able to play as the whole ogre crew, you won't have to wait long to relive those swampy memories.
But here's the twist: the trailer's opening isn't from Shrek 2 at all. Aspyr took the opportunity to acknowledge the elephant in the room—its November 10 release date puts it just nine days before Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto 6, which launches November 19. Most games have been steering clear of that window, but not Shrek. Instead of moving, the remaster is sticking to its date and taking a tongue-in-cheek jab at GTA 6, recreating its Vice City vibe and even spoofing that iconic Grand Theft Auto box art.
The original Shrek 2 video game launched in 2004 for GameCube, PlayStation 2, and original Xbox. It was a four-player squad-based action-adventure where you guided Shrek and his pals through familiar haunts like the swamp, tag-teaming baddies and using each character's special abilities to solve puzzles and complete missions. The remaster aims to capture that same co-op magic with a fresh coat of paint.
Pre-orders for Shrek 2 Remastered are available now, so you can secure your copy ahead of the November 10 launch. Whether you're a longtime fan or a newcomer curious about this cult classic, it's a chance to dive back into the fairytale world with friends.
Will you be picking up Shrek 2 Remastered, or are you saving your swamp time for GTA 6? Let us know in the comments!
