Fight Night Returns: EA Teases Boxing Revival After 15 Years

Remember the last time you stepped into the ring for a Fight Night game? If you've been waiting since the PS3 era, EA has some good news for you. The company has finally confirmed that Fight Night is making a comeback.

"To everyone who stayed in our corner: Fight Night is coming back," EA said from a newly created Twitter account for the series. The announcement came with an image of a pair of boxing gloves dangling over an empty canvas, captioned "the fight is never over." That's all we know for now—no release date, no platforms, no gameplay details. But for fans of the series, just knowing it's alive again is a huge deal.

If you're counting, this is EA's third major revival of a dormant sports series in recent years, following College Football and Skate. College Football 25 was a massive hit with both critics and players, though the mood around the series has shifted a bit with the controversial microtransaction rollout in College Football 27. Skate, on the other hand, has had a more mixed reception, and it's still in early access.

Fight Night was a big deal back in the day. Fight Night Round 4, in particular, was one of the best-reviewed games on PS3 and Xbox 360, thanks to its robust fighting mechanics, deep career modes, and graphics that were stunning for the time. It drew in fans well beyond the usual sports crowd, and since Fight Night Champion launched in 2011, a vocal group of gamers has been begging for a revival.

So why now? Well, here's where things get interesting. A big chunk of EA is now owned by Saudi Arabia, and the country regularly promotes boxing matches through its annual Riyadh Season events. It's easy to see how a Fight Night revival could tie into that. Of course, Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund has been accused by watchdog groups of using sports and entertainment to "whitewash the country's abysmal human rights record," so there's plenty of reason to be cynical about the timing. And just a month after buying EA, Saudi Arabia is reportedly looking to merge EA into a new mega-corporation.

For now, though, the focus is on the fact that Fight Night is actually happening. Will it live up to the legacy of Round 4? Will it bring back the magic of Champion? We'll have to wait and see. But one thing's for sure: the fight is never over.

What do you think? Are you excited for a new Fight Night, or are you cautious about the revival? Let us know in the comments.
