Imagine leaving a console running for six years straight and it just... keeps working. That's exactly what happened to one Japanese blogger, and the internet can't get enough of it.
According to the now-viral post, a Nintendo Wii back at the blogger's family home had apparently been left powered on for a whopping six years. The tweet blew up fast, pulling in over 230,000 likes and more than 10 million views.
So how does something like this even happen? Turns out the Wii was plugged into a TV input source the family rarely used, while the dad watched TV through a different signal source entirely. The console was sitting there, powered on the whole time, and nobody ever noticed.
Once the blogger finally spotted the situation, they checked the console and found it still running normally, with no obvious faults or issues. Six years of continuous operation, and the little white box just shrugged it off.
In the comments, one user offered a theory: "I heard metal that's constantly electrified doesn't rust easily, so maybe leaving the power on is actually better for the machine." Whether or not that holds up scientifically, it's a fun way to look at it.
The story also sparked a bigger conversation about just how tough Nintendo hardware really is. Plenty of people were impressed that a console could run for six years straight and still work like nothing happened. Others cracked jokes, with one commenter writing, "Six years without a power outage? This household's electricity supply is way too stable."
Either way, the whole thing adds another chapter to the reputation early Nintendo consoles have earned over the years: they're built like tanks. From the original Game Boy that survived a bombing to Wiis that apparently refuse to die, Nintendo's hardware keeps finding new ways to impress.
Got a console that's been running longer than you'd care to admit? Or maybe one that finally gave up after years of loyal service? We'd love to hear your stories.
