Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Adds 'Fairy Notes' to Quiet Navi

Ever wished Navi would just... stop? You're not alone. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake might finally address that, thanks to a brand new mechanic called Fairy Notes.

Nintendo has revealed that the upcoming remake will feature these Fairy Notes scattered across Hyrule. They appear as little scribble drawings of fairies, and when you have Navi read them, she'll relay tips—like reminding you that things can fall out of trees when you shake them. In a preview by TechRadar Gaming, highlighted by Twitter user Genki_JPN, it was noted that these notes contain special secrets left behind, with the instruction: "If you happen to come across one, be sure to have Navi read it!"

While unconfirmed, the hope is that Fairy Notes will cut down on Navi's constant interjections. Since 1998, her frequent "Hey! Listen!" has been a major complaint. She's not as overbearing as Fi from Skyward Sword, but that refrain is iconic for a reason—and if this new mechanic reduces it, that's a win.

The remake itself is looking like a faithful recreation of the N64 classic, but with some notable changes. Full voice-acted cutscenes for everyone except Link, a new boss rematch mode, and the addition of a jump button and dash for Link's movement kit are all confirmed. The core adventure remains familiar, especially for those who played the original or its 3DS remake.

Completionists will appreciate the extra incentive to explore. Fairy Notes not only provide helpful hints but also give Navi something to do besides pester you. It's a neat little addition that could make the world feel more alive and rewarding to search.

That said, Navi will likely still chime in with crucial details about the world. Esoteric hints may no longer be her priority, but you can bet she'll still guide you when it matters. The change seems aimed at reducing the annoyance without removing her entirely.

For those eager to learn more, GamesRadar+ features editor Andrew Brown went hands-on with the remake. You can read his preview for additional insights.

So, will Fairy Notes finally make Navi tolerable? Or will you miss her constant reminders? Let us know in the comments!
