Did you ever think we'd see another Star Wars Battlefront? Well, according to a new report, it might actually be happening. Variety claims that EA's DICE and Respawn Entertainment are teaming up on Star Wars Battlefront 3, the long-awaited follow-up to the 2015 and 2017 games.
The news comes from EA's recent restructuring announcement, which included layoffs and the closure of BioWare. In a memo, EA mentioned that DICE and Respawn are collaborating on a project that will help deliver a "shooter portfolio that unlocks growth." While EA didn't name the game, Variety's sources say it's Battlefront 3.
This rumor lines up with recent chatter that Lucasfilm Games was looking for a partner for a new Battlefront. DICE and Sony-owned Bungie were reportedly among the studios considered. DICE, of course, developed the first two Battlefront games for EA, released in 2015 and 2017.
Battlefront 2 had a rocky launch thanks to the loot box controversy (remember when that was the hot topic?), but it still became massively popular. Just last year, the game saw a sudden resurgence in players, with many hoping it would spark talk of a third entry.
EA's memo also touched on other shooter plans: lessons from Battlefield 6's launch and live service will feed into their goals, and Apex Legends will expand with new gameplay modes and experiences. But for Star Wars fans, the big takeaway is the potential return of Battlefront.
Outside of shooters, Star Wars gaming is on a roll. This year alone, we've seen the strategy game Star Wars Zero Company (co-developed by Respawn) and racing title Star Wars: Galactic Racer both enjoy critical success. So, a new Battlefront would fit right into a growing lineup.
Of course, EA hasn't officially confirmed anything, so treat this as a rumor for now. But with DICE and Respawn involved, the force might be strong with this one. What do you think? Are you ready for another Battlefront?
