Have you been holding out hope for a new Star Wars Battlefront game? Well, you're not alone—and the rumor mill just got a whole lot more interesting.
The chatter around Star Wars Battlefront 3 has been building all week, ever since Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb pointed to a report in an Electronic Gaming Monthly column claiming Disney has "big plans" for the series. According to the report, Lucasfilm is on the lookout for a development partner, and two studios have emerged as frontrunners: DICE, the team behind the first two Battlefront games, and Bungie, which would be a surprising pick given their current commitments.
But the plot thickened when Joe Brammer, CEO of Bulkhead—the studio behind Wardogs—decided to weigh in. In a move that's pretty unusual for a studio head, Brammer threw his support behind the rumor, saying, "DICE and from what I've heard Respawn are working on Battlefront 3." He also added, "Not sure what that means for Battlefield." So now we've got a whole new name in the mix: Respawn. That's a twist nobody saw coming.
Of course, it's worth pumping the brakes a little. Nothing has been confirmed by EA, Disney, or Lucasfilm, and rumors have a habit of fizzling out. But the timing is certainly curious. Just the other day, Lucasfilm said it will "continue to surprise folks" and is "more flexible" with the Star Wars franchise, hot on the heels of announcing Star Wars: Zero Company and Galactic Racer. Could Battlefront 3 be part of that flexible future? Only time will tell.
For now, all we can do is speculate and maybe dream about what a new Battlefront could look like. In the meantime, if you're itching for some Star Wars action, there are plenty of great games to play right now while you wait. But the big question remains: will Battlefront 3 actually happen, and who will be the one to make it?
What do you think? Are you excited about the possibility of Battlefront 3, or are you taking these rumors with a grain of salt? Let us know in the comments!
