Did you forget that Cities: Skylines 2 was supposed to come to consoles? You're not alone. While the original city-builder is getting a shiny new Switch 2 port, the sequel's console versions are still stuck in limbo.
Paradox Interactive has announced Cities: Skylines - Expanded Edition for Nintendo Switch 2. Developed by Tantalus Media (the team behind the Skyward Sword Switch port), this version costs $49 and includes 10 expansions. It also expands the buildable area to 25 tiles, supports keyboard and mouse, and adds a map editor, better precision placement, and environmental controls. You can choose between a 30fps mode for visual quality or a performance mode targeting 60fps.
Mark your calendar: it launches on October 28. If you already own the Switch 1 version, you can grab it at a 70% discount. Plus, on the same day, the Holiday Getaways, Mansions & Manors, and Blueprint Beasts Radio content creator packs will hit PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
But here's the elephant in the room: Cities: Skylines 2. The sequel was supposed to launch on PC and consoles in October 2023, but the console ports were pushed to Spring 2024. When the PC version finally arrived, it was riddled with bugs. Colossal Order spent months patching things up.
Then the console ports got delayed again to October 2024. And again. The developers admitted, "We have not yet met the stability and performance targets we set for the console release." Over two years later, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players are still waiting.
In November 2025, Iceflake Studios took over development from Colossal Order, promising "continuous work on the Editor and console editions." Since then? Silence. And since Tantalus Media handled the Switch 2 port—not Iceflake—it's unlikely the two are connected.
So while the original Cities: Skylines keeps thriving on new platforms, its sequel remains a mystery. Will you be picking up the Switch 2 version? Or are you still holding out hope for Cities: Skylines 2 on consoles?
