Ever wondered how GTA 6 will handle sex scenes? You're not alone. Rockstar North co-studio boss Rob Nelson recently opened up about the tricky topic of physical intimacy in the upcoming game, and his comments suggest the team is being very careful.
In an interview with IGN that was recently published in full, Nelson addressed how GTA 6 will portray intimacy between power couple Jason and Lucia. "We don't want to be so bad at it," he said, acknowledging that many games have historically fumbled this aspect. "These characters feel very right together – they really do. For anybody that wants to play around with the idea of role-playing their relationship, it's amazing."
But Nelson knows that physical intimacy is a huge part of any relationship, and it has to be done right. "Like anything that we do, we have to iterate and try things and iterate on it until we figure out what feels right," he explained. He added, "We definitely want to err on the right side of it."
When IGN joked about certain minigames that players wouldn't want to see, Nelson laughed and agreed: "I think that's right." That's a pretty clear nod to the infamous Hot Coffee mod from GTA: San Andreas. For those who don't remember, Hot Coffee was a scrapped sex minigame that modders discovered in the game's code, leading to a massive controversy and legal drama.
It sounds like Rockstar wants to avoid a repeat of that mess. Instead of rhythmically moving control sticks and filling an "excitement" bar, the studio is aiming for something more mature and fitting for the characters. Exactly what that looks like remains to be seen, but GTA 6's PEGI 18+ rating gives us a hint: expect "scenes of intercourse and occasional scenes of sexual fetishes."
So, what do you think? Will Rockstar finally nail intimacy in a way that feels natural, or are you worried they might stumble? Let us know in the comments!
