Kojima Keeps OD Under Wraps to Maximize the Horror

Hideo Kojima says he's staying quiet about his upcoming horror game OD on purpose, so players get the full shock when it finally launches.

Kojima Keeps OD Under Wraps to Maximize the Horror

Ever notice how Hideo Kojima loves a good mystery? Well, this time he's taking that love to a whole new level.

On his weekly radio show Koji10, Kojima opened up about OD, his upcoming horror project, and why he's holding back teasers. "It's still a mystery. That doesn't mean we haven't made the game," he said. "I want to keep quiet and release it. That's unusual for me, isn't it? I normally put out teaser after teaser. This time I don't want to reveal much."

So what's the big idea? Kojima wants OD to test the limits of what players can handle when it comes to fear. "The limits of fear, that's the idea behind the title. The critical point of fear," he explained. Basically, he's not just trying to scare you—he wants to push you to your absolute breaking point.

OD was first announced back in 2023 and described as an experiment about what it means to overdose on fear, which explains the name. Given Kojima's track record with Death Stranding—where trailers left us with more questions than answers—it's no surprise he's leaning into the mystery again. But this time, he's not even sure OD will find an audience, because the gameplay systems are unlike anything he's made before.

Xbox is supporting development on OD alongside Kojima's Metal Gear Solid spiritual successor, Physint. And according to reports, OD has been safe from the studio closures, layoffs, and cancellations that have hit Microsoft's gaming division throughout 2026. The game features actors Hunter Schafer and Sophia Lillis, though it's unclear how much of a role the late Udo Kier will have following his death last year. Kojima previously said the 2025 SAG-AFTRA strike forced the team to reschedule filming until 2026, but Kier can still be seen in the early teaser.

So yeah, Kojima is keeping us in the dark on purpose. Will that make the horror hit harder when OD finally drops? Only time will tell. What do you think—are you ready to overdose on fear, or does the silence make you nervous?
