Steam Flooded with Needle in a Haystack Clones, Dev Apologizes

In response, Nas wrote, "As the dev of the one that went viral, I would like to formally apologize to the Steam storefront." It's a funny moment, but also a bit bleak.

One commenter dubbed it "the Robloxification of Steam," and honestly, that feels accurate. Just like Roblox is full of clones of trendy hits like Meccha Chameleon, Steam is now hosting its own wave of copycats. A quick search shows loads of Needle In A Haystack clones, and many of them rely on generative AI to some extent. That's the cherry on top, huh?

It's not a great look for Valve's platform, but it's also not easy to control. When something goes viral, it spreads everywhere. The real problem starts when copycats overtake genuine, original versions of an idea—or just steal it outright.
