What if the long-awaited Star Wars: Battlefront 3 is actually happening? EA just dropped a major hint that DICE and Respawn are working together on a new project, and fans are already connecting the dots.
In a letter about EA's future, the publisher confirmed that DICE and Respawn are collaborating on a "future project" aimed at unlocking growth in their shooter portfolio. This comes alongside news of new Battlefield games in development. EA said: "In addition to our future Battlefield titles, we'll be bringing together our Respawn and DICE studios to collaborate on a future project that will help us achieve that ambition. We can't wait to share more when the time comes."
Naturally, this has poured fuel on rumors from earlier this week that the two studios are teaming up for Star Wars: Battlefront 3. Variety even corroborated those rumors via sources, though details on what the game will look like or when it might release remain under wraps. Other whispers suggested Bungie could be involved in Battlefront 3 or another Star Wars project, but nothing's been confirmed there.
For Star Wars fans, this is huge. Battlefront 3 has been one of the most demanded titles for over a decade. DICE's second take on the franchise, Star Wars Battlefront 2, launched with controversial monetization but was praised for its gameplay and has remained a respected title among Star Wars lovers. They've been rallying for a sequel ever since.
Respawn brings its own Star Wars pedigree to the table. The studio behind Titanfall and Apex Legends has worked on the Jedi games and the recently released Star Wars Zero Company. It also had a canceled Star Wars shooter, rumored to be a Mandalorian game, leaving fans wondering what could have been. If this new collaboration is Battlefront 3, it has serious potential.
But it's not all good news. EA also confirmed it's canceling the next Mass Effect and shutting down veteran RPG studio BioWare. That comes after a decade of commercial and critical misfires like Mass Effect: Andromeda, Anthem, and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. Still, the prospect of DICE and Respawn joining forces on a shooter is enough to keep hope alive.
What do you think? Is Battlefront 3 finally happening, or is this something else entirely? Let us know in the comments!
