Did you catch the September Nintendo Direct? If you were holding out for a release date for The Duskbloods, you probably left disappointed. FromSoftware's next big exclusive for the Switch 2 was a no-show, and with less than four months left in the year, that's starting to feel like a red flag.
The Duskbloods is still slated to launch in 2026, but the window is shrinking fast. You'd think a game from the studio behind Elden Ring would get a prime spot in the Direct, maybe even a release date or a fresh look at its maps and characters. Instead, nothing. Not even a mention. It's hard not to worry.
Remember the closed network test back in August? It didn't exactly go off without a hitch. FromSoftware had to cancel the first day of sessions due to server issues, which left players frustrated. They did manage to fix things for the later days, giving folks a taste of that co-op and competitive Soulsborne action. But those early problems might have been a sign that the online multiplayer needs more polish.
Nintendo could still surprise us with a dedicated Direct for The Duskbloods in the coming weeks. They've done that for big titles like the Star Fox remake and the upcoming Ocarina of Time remake. Both of those got release dates during their own presentations. So there's a chance we'll see something similar for The Duskbloods, but it's still odd it was missing from a Direct focused on winter and early next year's games.
The big question is whether The Duskbloods will make its 2026 launch or slip into 2027. Demand is clearly there—a FromSoftware employee mentioned that interest in the playtest actually surpassed that of Elden Ring Nightreign's. So it's not about hype; it's about timing.
Meanwhile, the Direct did have some other juicy announcements. Metroid Ravenous, a new 2D Metroid, is heading our way early next year, and Kirby and the World Beyond is set for Spring 2027. Plenty to look forward to, but The Duskbloods' absence is still nagging.
What do you think? Will The Duskbloods make its 2026 release, or are we looking at a delay? Let us know in the comments!
