Well, this is one way to spark a debate. A player on Tieba going by @英格力士在路上 shared a set of before-and-after screenshots with DLSS 5 enabled, and noticed something pretty unexpected: a character's legwear had visibly changed.
What were originally thick, solid white, fully opaque socks suddenly took on a much more translucent quality once DLSS 5 kicked in — looking a lot closer to what players casually call "sheer white stockings."
Naturally, the conversation went off the rails almost immediately. Instead of digging into what DLSS 5 is actually doing under the hood, plenty of players jumped straight into arguing about which look is better: the original thick opaque white, or the newly see-through version.
Some held firm that the original opaque socks had more impact, arguing that the fully solid look actually fits the character design better. Others felt the AI-processed sheer effect looks closer to how real stockings behave — with more than a few joking, "Isn't that a good thing?"
Of course, not everyone was on board. Some players pushed back, pointing out that the whole point of an image-quality enhancement tech is to faithfully reproduce the original image. If the AI is changing the material of clothing on its own, they argue, you can't really call that a straightforward "visual upgrade."
It's a fun little example of how AI upscaling can produce results nobody asked for — sometimes for better, sometimes for worse, and sometimes for reasons that have nothing to do with image quality at all.
So where do you land? Team thick opaque white socks, or team sheer white stockings? Let us know in the comments.
