Kairi Finally Gets Her Revenge in Fortnite

Kingdom Hearts' Kairi joins Fortnite, and she's not just a damsel this time—she's packing an assault rifle. The crossover drops later this week.

Kairi Finally Gets Her Revenge in Fortnite

Ever felt like Kairi from Kingdom Hearts just can't catch a break? Well, grab your controller, because she's about to catch something else: a body count. Fortnite's Chapter 7 Season 4 is bringing Sora, Riku, and Kairi into the battle royale, and for the first time, Kairi isn't waiting to be rescued—she's the one doing the rescuing, one assault rifle burst at a time.

A new trailer shows the trio in their Kingdom Hearts 2 outfits, each wielding their own Keyblade. They're fighting Heartless-like enemies in an area that looks a lot like Destiny Islands, hinting that the iconic home world might be joining the Fortnite map. And yes, the whole thing is set to Utada Hikaru's "Sanctuary," which still hits just as hard two decades later.

We don't actually see Kairi or Sora firing guns in the trailer, but you just know that when the skins drop, players are going to be running around with Sora on a shotgun and Kairi melting faces with an assault rifle. It's going to be a beautiful, chaotic sight.

For longtime Kingdom Hearts fans, this is more than just a fun crossover. Kairi has been done dirty for years—constantly sidelined as a damsel in distress. Even when Kingdom Hearts 3 finally gave her a major role as a Guardian of Light, she got kidnapped again and effectively killed off, forcing Sora to break the laws of nature to bring her back. She did get more to do in the Re Mind DLC and starred in the Melody of Memory rhythm game, but for many fans, it's still not enough to make up for how she's been treated.

So yeah, being able to play as Kairi in Fortnite and just absolutely wreck people? That's not just cathartic—it's therapy. You can finally let her blow off some steam, and honestly, she's earned it.

The next major Fortnite update is expected to drop on Thursday, September 17, and it should bring Sora, Riku, Kairi, and Roxas into the game. There's also talk that Sora's Kingdom Key will be added to the loot pool as a weapon, which means you might be able to Keyblade your way to a Victory Royale.

So, will you be dropping in as Kairi and getting some long-overdue revenge? Or are you more of a Sora or Riku main? Let us know in the comments!
